How To Move and Customize Your Facebook Page App Tabs and Images in 5 Easy Steps

Using images from the Seek Social Media Facebook Page, I’ll show you how to customize your Facebook Page app tabs so that the ones you want visitors to see first are displayed on the top row. I’ll also explain how to change the image that is displayed for the app tab.

 1. When on your Facebook Page, look to the far right of the app tabs (directly under the Cover Photo). Click the down arrow (see Illustration 1).

 2. A second row of app boxes will appear. If you want to change the location of the app box, hover over the app you want to move. At the top right of the box, you’ll see a pencil. Click on the pencil and an option box will drop down (see illustration 2). You can then swap positions with any of the other boxes.  *Note: The only box that can’t be moved is the Photos box.

3.To change the display name of the box (text under box) click Edit Settings in the drop down box. Another box will appear (see Illustration 3 for instructions). This is a 2-step process. You will have to change name, then return to change image.

Illustration 3

Type new display name in box and click ‘Save’.  To change image, return to this box, and click ‘Change’.

 4. To add a custom app image (also known as an app cover), return to the box in Illustration 3 and click ‘Change’. A new page will open. Click ‘Change’ again and an upload box will appear (see Illustration 4). Upload your image. You’ll see that the image has changed on the current page. Click back to your Facebook Page. The box from Illustration 3 will still be visible. Click ‘Okay’ and your new custom image will be there. *Note accepted image formats and size.

5. Enjoy the custom look of your app boxes (See Illustration 5)!

I want to reposition the photos in my business facebook page. I can move them on my personal page, but the business page doesn’t seem to have this option. Can you help? Take a peak at what I mean at:

      Hi Leslie,
You should be able to move it, at least a little bit, on a Page. It may be because you have your Page set up as a “community page” – they tend to have less functionality than regular business pages. I’d suggest changing your category to a local business or some other category. Also, I’ve found that when the image is exactly 851×315, it can’t always be moved so you may want to make the image just a bit smaller to leave room for moving.

Let me know if you need other help!

Thanks for this advice. I wonder if you know how to make Facebook automatically display both rows of tabs instead of just the top row. I know this is possible, since other non-profit pages have done so, but we cannot figure out how to do so on our page.

      Hi PJ,
I’m glad the information was helpful! As far as I know, there isn’t a way to display more than one row of app boxes. If you could send me a screen shot of a page that has more than one row displayed, I’d really appreciate it. I’ve never seen that on any page, nor have I been able to make it happen on my page or clients’ pages.

      Thanks for your comment,
      Carole

I am trying to change the name of the app. When I click on edit settings, (illustration 3) I do not get the option to change. I only get the option Profile, Tab: remove. There is no option to change anything. What am I doing wrong?

      Hi Heidi,
What app are you using? Could you send me a screen shot?
I just noticed a few days ago that the Facebook events tab doesn’t have that option, but I’ve never seen others that didn’t. I’d be interested to know if other apps don’t.

      Let me know! 🙂

      Hi Rolando,
There are several apps out there to add a tab to your Page. For instance, Pagemodo, Lujure, Tabsite App, to name a few. Also, you can build your own iFrame app through Facebook. Here’s a link to their tutorial: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/appsonfacebook/pagetabs/

    Hi
I have managed to add a review app but when I click on it, it takes me to a blank page.
Could you give me some feedback to rectify this as I would love to incorporate this.

I just clicked through and it looks like you’ve gotten it working. What’s the name of the app you used?

      Thanks,

    Hi Carole,

    Great info. Thanks.

Question that still remains, “How do I move my heading (as I call it) to the top of the page?”

    Thanks for your advice.

      Hi Gerald,
Happy to help, but can you explain what you mean by “heading”? Maybe you could send me a screen shot?

      Thanks,
      Carole
